Chiaroscuro: Photo exhibition by Alison Harris in Genoa, opening June 4

Alison spent days closed up in an abandoned 19th-century theater in the seaside town of Camogli, following the light as it traced images on walls, dusty upholstery, empty dressing rooms, and haunting back-stage areas. The result is this astonishing show, which features over 20 large, mesmerizing B&W images.
Curiously, the theater, Il Teatro Sociale di Camogli, has no comic masks. All of them are tragic. An indication, perhaps, of  the character of the diamond-in-the-rough inhabitants of Camogli?
Alison’s show will run from June 4 to July 4 at Galleria Il Vicolo, one of Genoa’s longest-established art galleries. It’s only 100 yards or so from the Ducal Palace in the atmospheric tangle of Genoa’s medieval alleys.
